Single Pair Ethernet a game changer for OEMs

If you are in the industry, at some point in time you have probably heard of the coming of single-pair ethernet. You may have thought, well it has been hear for a while. It could be that the reticence to move away from legacy infrastructure keeps single-pair ethernet in a bleeding-edge limbo of sorts. The fact is, single pair ethernet is here, it is getting better and it can go a long way to meeting the demands your infrastructure requires.

A brief history of single-pair ethernet

Around 2015 the auto industry begin to rely more heavily on SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) due to it's cost, space, and weight saving properties while being able to transmit data at a fast rate. SPE controls all of the snazzy modern computerized functions that cars now come loaded with without weighing down your conveyance with miles of heavy cabling.

Why SPE for industrial applications?

SPE allows for consistent data transmission at a field level while only using one-pair versus two, four of more pairs.

The advantages:

  • Thinner cables, lower weight, and less space requirements

  • Lower cost

  • Smaller bending radii and drag chains

  • Less bulk material like copper and plastics

URS Electronics offers a wide variety of SPE options form Weidmuller, Belden, Panduit and more.

Panduit's OneMode is fiber saving novacane.

…and now for something completely different...a little dram of Panduit's fiber wunderkind, the OneMode.

Panduit’s OneMode allows the end user to increase fiber backbone bandwidth without replacing existing infrastructure. If you are familiar with fiber, that explanation is enough to prompt an investigation as to how the OneMode follows through on this promise. For most of us, on the fringes of fiber, let us dig in a bit to types of savings OneMode potentially offers.

In a world without OneMode, increasing a fiber backbone takes a fair amount of time and money. In general, the largest expense is labor which involves any number of “fun” time and money leeches like laying new cable, ripping out existing cable, digging a trench in your parking lot, pulling permits…I think we can see where this is going.

With Panduit’s OneMode, you can potentially avoid all of that hassle and still have enough in your wallet for a cold six to enjoy while the ‘Blazers win next year's NBA Championship – I am calling it here!

*Right now you can enjoy LOW PRICES on in-house Panduit products through the end of June! So take advantage while you can.

Have a great rest of your week!
